WEBINAR: EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive – What can we expect, and when?

Posted
May 2023

The set out due diligence legislation in Europe has been debated and discussed, and in the views of many stakeholders is moving in the direction of a weakened set standards as compared to the original sources – the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. But principles need to translate to pragmatism; requirements have to be foreseeable, and compromises are inevitable.

As the EU now moves into final negotiations – what can we expect? A comprehensive package of policy and process requirements? A trigger for strategic lawsuits? Re-structuring of corporate governance and liability for Board of Directors? New public authorities with the mandate to scrutinise internal company decision making?

And what is the timeline for the directive – when will it enter into force, and who will have to abide by it?

To answer all these questions and more, a webinar was held on the 16th of May 2023 by Sandra Atler, the Director of the Enact Business and Human Rights Practice Group, and moderated by Sergio Pengel, consultant and skilled facilitator at Enact.
