European Commission Opens Consultation on CSDDD Implementation Guidelines
On 12 June 2026, the European Commission opened a public consultation on the development of guidelines to support the implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).
The consultation is open until 24 July 2026 and invites input from companies, business associations, investors, civil society organisations, public authorities, trade unions and other stakeholders.
According to the Commission, the guidelines are intended to support companies in implementing the due diligence requirements set out in the CSDDD. The consultation covers a broad range of topics, including:
→ due diligence policy and risk management systems
→ stakeholder engagement
→ identifying and assessing adverse impacts
→ prioritisation of impacts
→ prevention, mitigation and remediation
→ complaints and notification mechanisms
→ monitoring effectiveness
→ climate transition plans
Companies that have been working systematically with human rights and environmental due diligence have been addressing these topics for years under frameworks such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. The consultation provides an opportunity for companies and other stakeholders to contribute practical implementation experience to the development of the forthcoming guidance.
The Commission is expected to adopt the guidelines by July 2027.
