Support in developing sustainability reports

Business Challenge
Our client is one of the world’s largest suppliers to the construction industry. During the late 1990’s it acquired production companies in Northern Europe to strengthen its position in the Nordic market. The companies all had their own proud traditions, with different approaches and communication styles on environmental issues.

How we helped
To avoid double work, and in order to align communication and launch a more integrated sustainability strategy, Enact helped to develop a coherent framework, including common focus areas, priorities, targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The work was lead on a regional level but involved local stakeholders being sensitive to national differences and the different stakeholders involved.
Based on the coherent framework, Enact managed the production of a series of sustainability reports for the different markets. Sustainability reports in local languages, and a general one for the Northern Europe business area, were produced and printed. According to the plan this will be repeated every second year. Data and figures are updated annually on the company websites.

Results
This approach has helped widen the focus of sustainability issues from a former more local view to a new general Northern Europe regional approach. A coherent framework, common focus areas, targets, KPIs and a template structure applicable for all companies were necessary tools needed for this process. The integration of strategies and processes has created some belonging between the former separate entities, a better alignment in terms of a common direction and coherent communication tools that help increase transparency internally as well as externally.
